NQR-based RF Magnetometer

Experimental design and subsystem development for a radio-frequency detector based on nuclear quadrupole resonance.

Project Abstract

I designed optical-pump lasers, optomechanics, electromagnets, and an oven for an NQR-based radio-frequency magnetometer project aimed at detecting unexploded ordnance and crystalline narcotics.

The work involved developing and integrating the optical, mechanical, and magnetic components needed to support the detector experiment.

Background And Motivation

Nuclear quadrupole resonance can produce material-specific radio-frequency responses. This project explores how an atomic sensor can detect such signals in a practical experimental system.

Results And Next Steps

The project focused on developing the optical, magnetic, mechanical, and thermal subsystems needed for a detector experiment. Future work would integrate these components and evaluate detection performance under realistic conditions.

Methodology

I designed optical-pump lasers, optomechanics, electromagnets, and an oven, and contributed to subsystem integration for the NQR detector.
