Low Noise Electronics for Magnetometry

Custom current sources and amplifiers designed to provide stable references for atomic magnetometry experiments.

Low-noise electronics project illustration

Project Abstract

I built low-noise current sources and amplifiers to provide stable references for magnetometry experiments. Their radio-frequency noise performance was comparable to commercial instruments, including products that were difficult to obtain.

This work combined circuit design, construction, and characterisation around the practical needs of a precision sensing experiment.

Background And Motivation

The electronics driving a magnetometer contribute to the total measurement noise. Stable, low-noise current sources help control applied fields and protect sensor sensitivity.

Results And Next Steps

The developed current sources and amplifiers achieved radio-frequency noise performance comparable to commercial instruments. Further work can focus on reducing low-frequency noise and validating performance in a complete sensing setup.

Methodology

I built and characterised low-noise current sources and amplifiers as stable references for magnetometry experiments.
