Dipolar Quantum Gases

Laser intensity stabilisation for an erbium Zeeman slower.

Illustration of an atom

Project Abstract

I've recently joined Dr. Rob Smith's lab to work on the laser intensity stabilisation for the Zeeman slower. The aim is to make it more stable so that our estimates for the erbium population in a quantum gas are less uncertain. We are achieving this through a PID mechanism and a motorised rotating waveplate. More to come soon!

Background And Motivation

The aim is to stabilise the Zeeman-slower laser intensity so estimates of the erbium population in a quantum gas are less uncertain.

Results And Next Steps

The laser intensity stabilisation work is in progress. More to come soon.

Methodology

The stabilisation is being implemented using a PID mechanism and a motorised rotating waveplate.
